Creative work requires interlocutors

If you are a creative in any capacity, you will benefit from having an interlocutor. You need someone to think both with and against, working towards the shared pursuit of better ideas and richer creations. An ideal interlocutor is someone you see as your intellectual equal. They are similar enough to you that finding common ground is easy, but also different enough that your imaginative and empathetic capacities are stretched by your interactions with them.

Having your ideas stress-tested by someone you trust and respect is a crucial part of not only the creative process, but also the process of self-actualization. You can become a wiser, more fulfilled person by engaging in sustained dialogue over time with your interlocutor. Communication is still the best tool for augmenting your intelligence, and it's also the best way to improve your life.
